Maya, owner of Scrapbookgraphics, responded to the Week #9 question of "What creative activities do you or your family do for the holiday?" by saying:
"As joyous and wonderful as Christmas can be, it can also be extremely chaotic and stress-filled. We are very busy people and we have a lot of family members that stretch out into many different directions, The December calendar juggling starts months ahead of time to make sure that we have time to visit with everyone. Taking time out to decorate my own home for the holidays, often ends up being hap hazard last minute tinsel tossing. I must confess that I am not the best person to ask for a holiday decorating tip. I will even admit that last year I caved and bought our first artificial tree. I was tickled pink to find that they come with the lights already on now and pop open as simply as an umbrella does. My mom on the other hand will take an entire weekend to decorate her house. I just don't have that luxury and I know that this is also the case for many people.
However, I really enjoyed decorating the house with my mom when I was little. I loved taking each decoration out of the box and remembering it from the years before. That kind of tradition is something I want Kai (our six year old son) to have in his life too. So this year, instead of rushing around like mad to make the house look pretty before Christmas guests arrive, I'm going to invite them over and put them to work. Sometimes old traditions like Tree Trimming parties, can turn out to be the best solution for a busy family like ours. I am thinking that it might even be fun to have everyone bring an ornament for the tree and leave some craft supplies right beside the egg nog. I will be sure to take a photo of each handmade ornament, so I can document and scrapbook the story behind each one of them. That way when we bring them out again next Christmas, Kai can look back over the pictures and remember the ornaments from Christmas past."
